Steven Verhelst

Steven Verhelst studied chemistry at Leiden University with a MSc internship at Harvard Medical School. He obtained his PhD from Leiden University on bioorganic synthesis. After a post-doctoral stay in chemical biology at Stanford University with Prof. Matt Bogyo, he obtained an Emmy Noether career development award from the German Research Foundation and started his own lab as TUM Junior Fellow at the Technical University Munich in 2008. In 2014, he moved as group leader to the Leibniz Institute for Analytical Sciences ISAS. In 2015 he was appointed associate professor at KU Leuven, Belgium, and in 2024 promoted to full professor. His laboratory works on covalent chemical probes with proteases as primary targets.
