Mathias Frederiksen received his BSc (1998) from Mount Allison University, Canada. Thereafter, he went to Imperial College in London UK to study for his PhD under the mentorship of Professor Tony Barrett FRS. He obtained his PhD in 2003 and then moved to Stanford University to pursue postdoctoral training with Professor Barry Trost. He joined Novartis as a medicinal chemist in 2005 in GDC-Neuroscience. At Novartis, he has contributed to a number of projects in neuropsychiatry and neurodegeneration working on proteases, kinases, GPCRs, nuclear hormone receptors, ion channels and chromatin modifiers. In 2010, he started the Chemical Genomics group in Basel, responsible for chemical genomics and proteomics. In this position he focuses on chromatin, chemical proteomics/genomics, pathway biology profiling and target ID. He serves on the SAB for the SGC kinase consortium and manages collaborations with the SGC for Novartis.
