Julie McIntosh is an analytical chemistry PhD candidate at UNC Chapel Hill who performs a range of tasks at The Chemical Probes Portal from the curation and annotation of probes to portal fundraising strategy. Her gradate research, under the guidance of Dr. Matthew Lockett, focuses on developing a high-throughput customizable drug screening platform utilizing cell-free expressed cytochrome P450s (CYPs), a superfamily of heme-thiolate enzymes responsible for the phase I metabolism of 73% of market drugs. By incorporating multiple CYPs into the developed screening platform, Julie plans to investigate drug-drug interactions between pairs of CYPs, which affect CYP activity and lead to adverse reactions in patients.
