Joanne Kotz is assistant director of the F-Prime Biomedical Research Initiative (FBRI), an effort created to advance the discovery of novel therapeutic agents for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. As part of its mission, FBRI funds early-stage research in academia and industry to support innovative discoveries and to help bridge the gap for the translation of those discoveries into potential therapeutics. Prior to this position, she was director of Strategic Initiatives within the Center for the Science of Therapeutics at the Broad Institute, where she was involved in creating and guiding project teams and partnerships to advance chemical probe and drug-discovery efforts in cancer. Before the Broad, she was at Nature Publishing Group, first as a founding editor of the journal Nature Chemical Biology and later as a senior editor at the translational newsletter Science-Business eXchange (SciBX). Joanne received a PhD in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and conducted postdoctoral research at Genentech and at the Necker Hospital in Paris.
